Solutions
From Data to Action
Uncertainty and disagreement over pollution sources can stall progress by fragmenting the consensus for clean air and diminishing support for tangible actions toward addressing pollution. That is why our work focuses on helping cities build a clear, commonly-held understanding of local contributors to air pollution among stakeholders and impacted communities.
Our approach helps us understand the sources of local air pollution. Gathering information allows us to develop solutions that address the root causes of pollution: the city-specific economic, social, cultural or other incentives that drive the choices behind emissions. Our hypothesis is that by recognizing and addressing these root causes, we will develop solutions that act quickly and last. We identify priority sources and impacted communities around which to focus equitable solutions design based on gender, health and climate impact analyses, and we partner with local governments, communities and the private sector to form a coalition to implement these tailored solutions to each city.
Solution co-creation provides an opportunity to review potential actions for negative or positive side effects on key intersections. The short-listed potential interventions will be assessed for their potential impacts on gender, equity, climate, and health goals.
The goal is to pick and back a solution that delivers gender empowerment, visible equity benefits, advances climate, and delivers health benefits naturally by reducing pollution.
