Project Update: Clean Air Catalyst Joins “Better Quality of Life” World Environment Day Celebrations in Jakarta

Clean Air Catalyst team joined Jakarta’s celebration of World Environment Day 2024 alongside Jakarta’s Environment Agency, Jak Sehat, and Breath Jakarta. Held on June 8 and 9 with the theme "Kualitas Hidup yang Lebih Baik" (A Better Quality of Life), the event emphasized the importance of enhancing the quality of life by integrating air, water, land and energy.
In addition to celebrating World Environment Day, the event aimed to harness the spirit of Jakarta’s residents to create a better quality of life as the city emerges as a global center and to educate the public about the causes and effects of air pollution and ways to minimize rising pollution levels. Aligned with the Clean Air Catalyst's mission to improve air quality and with Jakarta’s Environment Agency’s interests, WRI Indonesia contributed as a sponsor through a series of activities centered around the element of air.
Clean Air Catalyst participated in two activities during the two-day event: the Jak Race and a Ted-style talk session. Both activities aimed to share information and create an understanding of air pollution, its sources, and strategies for optimizing inclusive and equitable solutions—such as Low-Emission Zones (LEZs)—to improve air quality.
On June 8, the first day of the event, the Catalyst team participated as part of the Jak Race, holding the first of four posts centered on the element of air in Kota Tua, one of the locations where the LEZ is implemented. During the activities, participants engaged in informative sessions about the sources of air pollution and low-emission transportation, facilitated by WRI Indonesia’s Air Quality and Climate Research Assistant, Khalisha Qatrunnada.
On the second day of the event, Satya Utama, WRI Indonesia’s Air Quality Project Manager—and Catalyst Jakarta Lead—represented the Catalyst and gave a presentation on the project’s approach to data-based policies, raising awareness about sources of air pollution, low-emission mobility solutions, and promoting inclusivity towards LEZs.
