Air Quality Training for SGSITS Students and Faculty Builds Capacity for Clean Air Leaders in Indore

Last month, the Catalyst and Shri GS Institute of Technology and Science (SGSITS) co-hosted a two-day air quality management workshop for 25 engineering students from across multiple Indore organizations. The interactive sessions increased attendees’ understanding of air pollution and its local impacts, built capacity to reduce air pollution at the city level, and supported the development of strategies to identify pollution sources.

This workshop was the inaugural event as part of the Catalyst’s newly signed three-year memorandum of understanding with SGSITS for local clean air capacity-building and exchange of resources. 

The new partnership will benefit the SGSITS engineering interns by enhancing their skills and knowledge with hands-on training on environmental engineering, surveying, installation and maintenance of on-site sensors, and machinery.

The training was also attended by the Indore Municipal Corporation. Following the workshop, the Catalyst selected six students for internship positions to support the upcoming source apportionment study in Indore. This study will provide valuable information about pollution sources and their contributions to local air quality levels.

As part of the Catalyst’s ongoing work to embed gender equity considerations throughout the program, six women were recruited to participate in the workshop, and three applied for the internship position, two of whom were selected for the role during the interview process.
