Where
We Work

More than 90% of deaths related to air pollution occur in low- and middle-income countries, mainly in Asia and Africa.

Clean Air Catalyst is using a novel data-to-impact approach to tackle the root causes of pollution in three cities — Indore, India, Jakarta, Indonesia and Nairobi, Kenya. We are refining and documenting the approach so that other cities can use it to address their own air pollution challenges.

Indore, India

From Cleaner Streets to Clearer Skies

Although Indore is nationally recognized for its success in solid waste and water management, the skies above the city are among the most polluted in the central-Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. Reducing air pollution in Indore will protect health, help address the climate emergency and strengthen the local economy.

Clean Air Catalyst in Indore is led by Environmental Defense Fund and WRI India. For more information, contact Megha Namdeo Dubey at megha.edf@gmail.com.

Jakarta, Indonesia

Innovative Roadmap to Clean Air

Jakarta’s transportation and industrial sectors are growing rapidly as a result of the doubling of its economy over the past decade, and so are its bad air days. A deeper understanding of what is driving the city’s air pollution and what to do about it is needed to deliver clean air for all of Jakarta’s residents.

Nairobi,
Kenya

Clean Air for a Healthy City

By prioritizing community and stakeholder engagement, Nairobi has an opportunity to build awareness and support for its Air Quality Action Plan. New air monitors and comprehensive data collection will also help officials understand the differentiated health impacts of air pollution on women and low-income communities as well links with climate change, thus driving more effective, equitable and integrated clean air solutions.
