Climate, Clean Air and Health: An Integrated Approach

To find enduring solutions for air pollution, public health and climate change, we need to define the problem and the solution in ways that engage allies beyond the traditional environmentally focused regulators and agencies. We need to build awareness of the health and development gains that cleaner air can deliver, as well as a shared understanding of pollution sources and solutions.

The “end of tailpipe, top of smokestack” approach will not be enough to stem the tide of emissions that is warming the atmosphere and causing a global public health crisis—we also need a forward-looking approach that builds clean air into public investment, urban planning, infrastructure and service finance.

This discussion will focus on the synergies between climate, health and air quality action; and highlight the need for an integrated approach across sectors, government and society.

This event will take place on November 4 from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM GMT as a part of the COP26 NDC Partnership Pavilion.

Speakers:

  • Stientje van Veldhoven (moderator), Vice President and Regional Director of Europe, World Resources Institute

  • Gillian Caldwell, Climate Change Coordinator, USAID

  • Elena Villalobos Prats, Climate Change and Health Program Technical Officer, World Health Organization

  • Asep Kuswanto, Head, DLH Jakarta Environment Agency
