Against the backdrop of the Africa Union Climate Action Summit and the Africa Climate Week, Nairobi will host the UNEP’s fourth annual International Clean Air Day for blue skies event with H.E. Governor Sakaja and other high-level speakers on September 7th, 2023. This year’s theme is Together for Clean Air, focusing on the need for strong partnerships, increased investment and shared responsibility to overcome air pollution. To inspire Nairobi residents and visitors to the city and highlight the theme of working together to end road pollution and protect human health, a local artist will be commissioned to paint mural in a prominent location near the Kenyatta International Convention Centre on September 7th.

Nairobi will participate for the first time in the global Air Quality Awareness Week from May 1st to May 5th. The signature event will be Wednesday’s Nairobi Ride4Life, a cycling procession through the Nairobi business district to create a community movement for clean air and the provision of better and safer walking and cycling infrastructure.
